Cricket Formats and Tournaments

Before betting on cricket, it helps to know which format is being played, because the pace, strategy and markets differ across all three formats.

T20 is the fastest format – just 20 overs per side, so every ball can shift the odds. BPL (Bangladesh Premier League) is Bangladesh's biggest T20 event and draws particularly strong interest from cricket fans in the country. IPL and the T20 World Cup are also played in this format, which is why viewership and betting interest are at their highest.

ODI (One Day International) is a 50-over match. It is slower than T20 but gives more opportunity to track innings build-up and partnerships. Since the Tigers' ICC events are typically played in ODI format, Bangladeshi bettors follow this market closely.

Test cricket is the longest form – five days, two innings. A draw is a possible result, so the market offers three options: Team A win, Team B win or draw. Pitch conditions and weather at the end of each day can noticeably affect the odds.

Alongside cricket, taka also offers football betting. Football matches last just 90 minutes, scores are generally lower, and most bettors focus on total goals or the match result. Where cricket has specialised markets around run totals, wickets and overs, football has goalscorer and corner markets. The pace of the two sports and the way data is analysed differ, so betting strategies need to be thought through differently for each.

Popular Betting Markets

Several cricket markets are available on taka Sports. Each works differently, so it is worth understanding them before placing a bet.

Match Winner

Pick which team will win the match. Two options in T20 and ODI, three in Test (Team A, Team B or Draw). Example: if Team A is the favourite their odds will be lower, while Team B as the underdog will have higher odds.

All Formats

Toss Winner

Which team wins the toss – just two options, so the odds are nearly even. Not a high-traffic market, but many bettors use it as part of a multi bet. Example: if both teams have a similar toss record it is natural for the odds to be close.

T20 · ODI · Test

Top Batsman

Who will score the most runs for a given team? Each batter has separate odds. Knowing the batting order and pitch type makes this market relatively straightforward to analyse.

ODI · Test

Total Runs Over/Under

Will the total runs finish above (over) or below (under) a set line? Example: in a T20 with a line of 155.5, 156 or more wins the over and 155 or fewer wins the under. Pitch conditions and team batting strength matter here.

T20 · ODI

Most Wickets in an Innings

Which bowler will take the most wickets in an innings? On a spin-friendly pitch the odds on spinners will shorten. Example: bets are placed by comparing pacers and spinners from both sides.

All Formats

Multi Bet (Multiple Selections)

Combine multiple matches or markets into a single bet – if all selections are correct the return multiplies significantly, but if any one selection is wrong the entire bet loses. Example: combining match winners from three different matches.

How to Read and Understand Odds

taka Sports odds screen view

Odds on taka Sports may be displayed in three formats – decimal, fractional and American. All three convey the same information; only the way they are presented differs.

Format Team A Win (same odds) Team B Win
Decimal 2.25 1.50
Fractional 5/4 1/2
American +125 -200

Example 1 – Team A win (Decimal 2.25 = Fractional 5/4 = American +125):
Bet ৳500 and if Team A wins you receive ৳1,125 back (৳625 profit + ৳500 stake); if Team A loses you lose ৳500.

Example 2 – Team B win (Decimal 1.50 = Fractional 1/2 = American -200):
In American format, minus odds show how much you need to bet to make ৳100 profit. With a ৳500 bet, if Team B wins you get back ৳750 (৳250 profit).

Simply put: to calculate total return using decimal odds, multiply your stake by the odds.

Live In-Play Betting

Live

Live betting in cricket is the most changeable – every ball can shift the momentum of the game. When a wicket falls, the batting team's odds of winning rise quickly; a string of boundaries in the powerplay can also move the over/under line.

In in-play betting, odds change in moments so there is little time to decide. It makes sense to bet with an eye on how many runs are needed in a given over and how many wickets are in hand.

Example: 60 runs needed off the last 5 overs with 7 wickets remaining – at that moment the odds will favour the batting team. But if two wickets fall in the next over, the picture can change.

taka's taka App lets you view live scores and odds together, making it easy to track in-play markets from your mobile.

Multi Bet – Multiple Selections Combined

In a multi bet, multiple selections are added to a single bet and all their odds are multiplied together. The potential total return can be much higher, but if any one selection is wrong the entire bet loses.

Example – 3-Selection Multi Bet

You pick match winners from three separate matches – decimal odds of 1.50, 1.70 and 1.90 respectively. Combined odds: 1.50 × 1.70 × 1.90 = 4.84 (approximately). A ৳100 bet returns ৳484 if all three are correct. If even one is wrong, you lose the full ৳100.

Multi bets are entertaining, but as you add more selections the chance of all of them being correct naturally decreases. Betting is always for enjoyment – see the responsible gaming page for detailed guidelines.

  • Start with fewer selections – two or three selections can still produce quite attractive combined odds.
  • Avoid putting two selections from the same match in a multi – their outcomes are related to each other.
  • Analyse each selection on its own merits before combining them.
  • Keep your stake on multi bets within limits – do not bet more just because the potential return looks large.

A Few Things to Know Before You Start Betting

  • Understand the format first: T20 markets work differently from Test markets. Knowing what makes each format distinct helps you make clearer betting decisions.
  • Compare odds: Decimal, fractional or American – analyse in whichever format you are comfortable with, as all three carry the same information.
  • Live markets move fast: In in-play betting, watch how the match is going rather than rushing – then make your decision.
  • Set a budget: Decide on a fixed limit before each betting session and do not go beyond it – betting is entertainment, not a source of income.
  • Explore multiple markets: Do not stick only to match winner – check total runs or top batsman markets too, as they sometimes offer more variety.
  • Follow the 21+ rule: All betting and casino activity on taka is for those aged 21 and above only.

Responsible Betting

Cricket betting is for enjoyment – never place a bet to chase losses. Setting limits, taking breaks and keeping track of your betting are good habits.

FAQ – Cricket Betting

T20 is generally the most popular format for betting because matches are short, results come quickly, and odds shift frequently during live betting. Interest peaks during BPL and IPL. ODI markets are also well covered, especially for ICC events. Test matches offer some specialised markets such as draw, innings total and similar.

Yes, there is a clear difference. In pre-match betting you place your bet before the match starts and odds are relatively stable. In in-play or live betting you bet while the match is in progress – odds change with every wicket, over and run. You have less time to decide in live betting, so it is important to follow the match closely.

This market sets a specific run line. You choose whether the total runs will finish above that line (over) or below it (under). Example: if the line in a T20 match is 155.5, then 156 or more wins the over and 155 or fewer wins the under. The odds for over and under are usually close to each other. Pitch conditions, team batting strength and weather all influence the decision.

You can usually start from 2 selections and add more. Keep in mind that the more selections you add, the lower the chance that all of them will be correct. Combined odds are calculated by multiplying the odds of each selection. If even one selection is wrong, the entire bet loses – so while the potential return is higher, the risk is also higher.

Yes, since both are T20 tournaments the range of markets is quite similar – match winner, total runs, top batsman, toss winner and so on. Because BPL is Bangladesh's own tournament, local bettors may be more familiar with the franchises and the match schedule. IPL features more international players. Live betting is available for both tournaments.
